Soon after returning
to Bend from Alaska, Pharmacist Barbara Dembsky started
HomeCare I.V. of Bend, Inc to provide the clinical and economic
benefits
of infusion therapies
and enteral nutrition services administered in the
home.
In the late 80's most infusion therapies were provided in a hospital and often involved lengthy stays. The technology and clinical knowledge needed to safely administer infusion therapies, such as antibiotics, pain medications, blood transfusions, and chemotherapy, outside a hospital setting was just beginning to find wide acceptance in the health care community. Yet, as advanced as health care services were in central Oregon then, there were no providers of home infusion services.
Barbara, a Registered Pharmacist who moved to Bend following graduation from the University of Wisconsin, received her initial education in the clinical and technical aspects of home infusion in Alaska while managing a pharmacy in Anchorage. The need for those services in Bend was evident when she moved back to Bend.
The first location was a 400
square foot office on Northeast Greenwood
Avenue. Our current facility was built for HomeCare
I.V. in 1999 and is located adjacent to the Saint
Charles Medical Center campus.
In 2004, HomeCare I.V. of Bend, Inc celebrated its fifteenth year serving the central and eastern Oregon community. Since 1989 the company has grown from a staff of two to a team of 18 skilled Clinical Pharmacists, Registered Nurses, Certified Pharmacy Technicians, and billing and reimbursement specialists committed to serving the people of their community.
HomeCare I.V. has been accredited by the Joint Commission
of

Healthcare Organizations since 1994. Maintaining
accreditation is one way we insure we're meeting the
highest standards of care for our patients. Over 6000
patients have had the benefit of innovative, clinically and
cost effective home and out-patient infusion therapies and the
healthcare community has benefitted from millions of dollars in
cost savings.
