In the late 80's, most infusion therapies were provided in hospitals and often involved expensive, lengthy stays. The technology and clinical knowledge needed to safely administer infusion therapies, including, antibiotics, pain medications, blood transfusions, and chemotherapy, outside a hospital setting were just beginning to find wide acceptance in the health care community. Yet, as advanced as the health care services in central Oregon were then, there were no home infusion service providers.
Barbara Dembsky, a Registered Pharmacist, who moved to Bend following graduation from the University of Wisconsin, received her initial education in the clinical and technical aspects of home infusion while managing a pharmacy in Anchorage, Alaska. Soon after returning to Bend, Barbara, started Home Care I.V. in order to provide the much-needed clinical and economic benefits of home infusion therapies and enteral nutrition services to the central Oregon community. In 2009, Home Care I. V. celebrated its twentieth year serving the central and eastern Oregon community.
Our first location was a 400 square foot office on Northeast Greenwood Avenue. Home Care I.V.’s current facility was built in 1999 and is located adjacent to the Saint Charles Medical Center campus.
Since 1989, the company has grown from a staff of 2 to a team of 18 skilled clinical pharmacists, registered nurses, certified pharmacy technicians, and billing and reimbursement specialists committed to serving the people of their community.
Home Care I.V. was first accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (now The Joint Commission) in 1994 and has maintained that accreditation for over 18 years. In late 2012 the company changed accrediting bodies and is now accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Health Care. Maintaining accreditation is one of the many ways Home Care I.V. ensures it’s meeting the highest standards of patient care.
